Two movies open up today that feature mobsters. Both movies are based on fiction.
The dark comedy The Ice Harvest comes from director Harold Ramis. John Cusack plays a lawyer who plans to embezzle money from his mob bosses. Billy Bob Thornton is his partner in crime who double-crosses him with the help of a strip bar owner, played by Connie Nielsen. The film is set during Christmas in a snowbound town. Robert Benton and Richard Russ adapted the script based on a novel by Scott Phillips.
Heartthrob Usher is In the Mix in the romantic comedy directed by Ron Underwood. The musician plays a mafioso's right hand man who is assigned to protect his daughter. As the two spend time together, a romance develops, causing complications between their families. The light-hearted romp is full of colorful characters that contribute to the confusion.
